The quality of the TLC plate directly affects the reliability of the result. Inconsistent silica layer thickness, poorly bound stationary phase or substandard fluorescent indicator all introduce variability that costs time and obscures chemistry. Fluorochem’s TLC plate range is built around Silica Gel 60 – the industry-standard stationary phase for normal-phase TLC – with F254 fluorescent indicator incorporated throughout, enabling straightforward UV254 visualisation of UV-active compounds without additional staining.
Glass-backed HPTLC plates
Our glass-backed plates use Silica Gel 60 F254 with either CMC-Na or polyacrylate-Na binder systems, available in standard 20×20 cm format for analytical work and miniaturised 2×5 cm, 2.5×5 cm and 2.5×7.5 cm formats ideal for high-throughput reaction screening where plate economy and speed matter. Basic-modified variants are available for separations involving basic compounds prone to tailing on standard silica. HPTLC-grade plates offer a finer, more homogeneous silica layer than conventional TLC plates, delivering tighter spot geometry and improved resolution for demanding analytical applications.
Aluminium-backed TLC plates
For laboratories where the flexibility to cut plates to size is a practical priority, our aluminium-backed Silica Gel 60 F254 plates offer the same stationary phase performance in a format that can be trimmed with scissors, or a guillotine, without cracking. Available in 20×20 cm sheets and pre-cut 2.5×5 cm formats, with polyacrylate-Na binder for robust layer adhesion.
